Winery Highlight - Weingut Rosner in Austria's Kamptal Region
The Kamptal region of Austria is home to a lush rolling hills, a proud tradition of winemaking, and one of my favorites wineries, namely Weingut Rosner!
Weingut Rosner is a family-owned winery located in Langenlois, within the Kamptal wine region of Lower Austria. The estate has a long history of winemaking, dating back to 1897 when Theresia and Johann Rosner acquired the property.
Langenlois is a bit of a “hot-spot” for winemaking, with numerous producers calling the town home. Weingut Rosner has been producing wines since 1897, meaning that the history is nearly 130 years old!
Over the generations, the winery has expanded and modernized, with Norbert and Renate Rosner taking over in 1995 and later joined by their son Stefan in 2014.
Since 2010, the winery has been officially certified for organic viticulture. They avoid chemical fertilizers and herbicides, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly methods. This care for the land ensures not only a high-quality final product, but shows the positive moral and ethical considerations the family considers during each step of the winemaking process.
The wines are produced in a traditional vaulted cellar equipped with modern technology. The Rosners emphasize natural approaches during processing and fermentation to preserve the character of their vineyards.
The estate benefits from hot days and cool nights in summer, as well as long sunny autumn periods. The vineyards also reflect the loess and clay soils typical of Langenlois, allowing them to cultivate a variety of expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir of their region.
Visitors can enjoy guided tours and tastings at the winery every Saturday from 1 PM to 5 PM. These events provide an opportunity to explore their wines and learn about their production process.
Weingut Rosner is not only a place to enjoy high-quality organic wines but also a destination for experiencing Austrian winemaking traditions in a picturesque setting.
They produce a wide range of wines, including classics like Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zweigelt, as well as exciting Gelber Muskateller, Muskat Ottonel, Scheurebe, and Sankt Laurent. They even produce a still and sparkling Rosé, as well as sparkling white wines!
